Our mission is… to provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. We are available 24 hours a day to provide immediate disaster assistance and facilitate emergency communications between families and their military family member wherever they are serving. We offer health and safety training including CPR, First Aid, AED and water safety. We provide presentations on disaster preparedness and other health and safety related topics.

We also assist Blood Services with community blood drives.

Volunteer opportunities are available in disaster services, health & Safety services and general office assistance.

The Boy Scouts of America is a youth organization that uses a fun program to promote and encourage good ethical decision-making, character development, citizenship training, and physical fitness for every member.

Cub Scouting is for boys in the 1st through 5th grades and emphasizes family involvement.

Boy Scouting is for boys 11 to 17 years old. Peer leadership and teamwork are emphasized in this program. Boy Scouts feature a specialized advancement program requiring skill acquisition and leadership responsibilities.

Venturing is a co-educational program youths 14 to 20 years old and based on high adventure, community service, and other hobby-related activities.

Exploring is a co-educational program that is career-oriented for youth 14 to 20 years old.

Learning for Life is a co-educational program for youths in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Boy Scouts of America makes Scouting available to our community’s youth by chartering community organizations to operate Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venture Crews, Explorer Posts and Learning for Life Groups. The chartered organization must provide an adequate and safe meeting place and capable adult leadership, and must adhere to the principles and policies of the BSA. The Chattahoochee, BSA provides unit leader training, program ideas, camping facilities, literature and professional guidance for volunteer leaders.

Camp Viola is a summer recreational camp for children who might not otherwise have a camping experience. Founded in 1926 by Miss Viola Burks, the camp consists of 180 acres of land near Mountville. Activities include arts and crafts plus sports and recreation. Supervised by the Board of Directors of Camp Viola, volunteers from local churches and organizations provide daily activities including hiking, swimming, fishing, daily worship services, social skills education, football, volleyball, softball, canoeing, and outdoor education. Three meals are provided each day as well as snacks which are all USDA approved.

AmeriCorps members provide in-home companionship and assistance for the frail elderly, enriching their lives and significantly reducing the costs of hospital and nursing home care. AmeriCorps members help the senior adults with medical maintenance needs, and act as the link between their clients and the community's human service resources. Drastic reduction was also noted in the health care costs to caregivers.

AmeriCorps members are also assigned with other community partners to offer health promotion information and mobilize volunteers who provide additional services like transportation to medical appointments.

The Foster Grandparent Program provides the opportunity for low-income older adults to contribute to their communities. By pairing these citizens with children who have special needs and problems, they are able to help these children grow physically, socially, emotionally, and mentally. Volunteers serve children in elementary, preschool and Headstart programs.

Senior Companion Program provides senior adults the opportunity to serve other senior adults in their community. Senior Companion volunteers provide companionship for other homebound senior adults enabling them to remain in their own homes and to provide respite for family members.

Care Link Volunteer Opportunities

AmeriCorps members age 17 and older to commit to a term of service. Receive a small stipend and educational award. Mileage reimbursement also available

Senior Companion age 60 and low income have opportunity to serve and earn a small stipend and other benefits while providing companionship for other senior adults.

Foster Grandparents age 60 and low income have opportunity to serve in elementary and preschool settings with special needs children and earn a small stipend and other benefits.

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Mission is to give children a voice in court. It is to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children involved in juvenile deprivation proceedings. CASA of Troup County provides screened, trained, and supervised volunteers who speak for the needs of these children, one child at a time.

Communities In Schools of Troup County promotes life success by working with youth most susceptible to school dropout; within the school setting, program addresses critical issues such as school academic, attendance, literacy, job preparedness, teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol prevention, low self-esteem, disruptive and violent behavior. Volunteers support CIS program by serving as mentors and tutors. This special connection allows students to experience a meaningful, one-on-one relationship with a caring adult.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services confidentially advises individuals on budgeting, money management, before and after purchasing of housing, and bankruptcy. Trained professionals help in preparing a budget, and if needed, establish a plan for debt reduction. Offers community financial education programs. No one is denied service because of inability to pay.

Good Shepherd Therapeutic Center offers residential care in a farm based setting with equine therapy. Good Shepherd also provides long term residential care for abused, neglected, and problem adolescent males who are moderately emotionally disturbed. It is State licensed to serve a maximum of 20 children ages 13 to 17 years.

In Addition Good Shepherd makes available Therapeutic Riding for these residents and outpatient clients of all ages that are physically and mentally challenged. Equine therapy is used for these clients to assist them with balance, coordination, and muscle strength which increases joint mobility and perceptual skills. It is Certified by North American Handicapped Riding Association as a Premier Center. The instructors are also certified by the Certified Horseman’s Association. The agency is nationally certified by Council On Accreditation. Priority placement is given to Troup, Meriwether, and surrounding Counties.

Provides assistance during times of distress, illness, misfortune or emergency.

Personal Aid Program supports families through rental, mortgage and utility payments when the major income earner is ill or hospitalized and is out of work under a doctor’s care.
Utility assistance is provided through the SHARE and Round-Up Programs with funds donated by local residents through the City of LaGrange Utility Department and Diverse Power.
Screening and Information services provided for the Lions Club Glasses Program, Empty Stocking Fund, Wal-Mart Distribution Center Angel Tree, Troup Cares Medical Clinic and First Baptist Church Dental Clinic.
Additional Programs: Fans and Air Conditioners for Seniors, School Supplies, Milk, Juice and Ensure for the Elderly and Medically Needy, Medical or Emergency Transportation Assistance, Medical Supply Purchases, Senior Christmas Program, Food Safety and Prescription Assistance Program Information, Information & Referral Services, Fire & Disaster Assistance (in coordination with American Red Cross and United Way of West Georgia.)
Lagrange Personal Aid was established January 1923 and was formerly LaGrange Welfare Association.

Dental Care Fund provides payment assistance for emergency dental care procedures such as extractions, fillings and dentures. Routine maintenance services are not included. Preference is given to seniors, working adults and children. Established January 1983.

Interfaith Food Closet provides temporary and emergency food.
Proof of need is required, based on circumstances, to be determined by the Food Closet Coordinator at the time of contact. Also provides (when available) personal care items, baby food and diapers. Established April 1983.

A recreational meeting place for independent older adults (55+). Its mission is to enhance quality of life, encourage independence and extend lifespan. Our activities include exercise, art & crafts, recreational tournaments, games, computer training, singing, dancing, travel, and fellowship with other seniors. The Center provides regular presentations on health, nutrition and other topics of interest to seniors. Transportation services are available. Lunch is served daily at the Center as well as a meal delivery for homebound seniors.

The purpose of Self Help Harbor, Inc. is to provide a safe and easily accessible environment for twelve step recovery groups to meet. Self-Help Harbor, Inc. presently provides meeting rooms for Alcoholics Anonymous, Alanon, Alateen, and Narcotics Anonymous. Self Help Harbor is open 7 days a week for meetings, and provides services for approximately 100 persons a day whom attend one or more of these meetings.

On a day to day basis the organization provides to families in crisis situations, assistance in the form of clothing, food, furniture, medical prescriptions, rent, and utilities. During the summer, the organization provides a weeklong camping experience in the north Georgia Mountains to underprivileged youth. At Christmas the Organization provides new clothing, new toys and wholesome food boxes to low-income families who otherwise could not afford these items for Christmas. All requests for assistance are evaluated through a formal interview process
