Almost every town and city has its own United Way with a minimum of staff Because there are so many volunteers, United Ways keep overhead at a minimum. Last year your United Way utilized only 13% for overhead.

No, unpaid pledges can cost United Way 10-12%.

They apply to the board if they meet certain criteria (non-profit, local board, meeting human care need, financially sound and fiscally accountable.

The volunteer allocations committee. Last year these services provided help 36,000 times.

How can I be sure that my money goes to these services?    { ^ top ^ }
Last year over 100 volunteers from businesses and industries giving to United Way formed panels that meet with every agency to study their services and financial data. The panels then make funding recommendations to the board.
