HISTORY
For over 67 years, the United Way of West Georgia has been dedicated to improving lives in LaGrange and the surrounding West Georgia area.
Our journey began as the United Fund Appeal, later becoming the United Way of the LaGrange Area, and in 1990, officially established as the United Way of West Georgia, Inc. Throughout our history, our mission has remained the same: to support and enhance the quality of life for all members of our community.
The United Way of West Georgia is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of local leaders who are deeply committed to this region. The Board oversees a dedicated President and staff who manage the organization’s daily operations.
As one of over 1,100 local United Ways across the United States affiliated with United Way Worldwide, we adhere to strict membership standards to maintain our license and use of the United Way brand. Each local United Way operates independently, selecting and supporting local partner organizations based on the priorities of its Board. We are registered with the Secretary of State and certified as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Today, the United Way of West Georgia supports 21 local nonprofit partners. Through our annual Community Investment process, held each February, we facilitate a thorough citizen-led review of each funded organization. Community members are encouraged to volunteer for this process, gaining valuable insight into the operations and impact of the partner agencies we support.
OUR VISION
We improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of the West Georgia communities serving Troup, Heard and Meriwether counties.
OUR MISSION
We serve as the community’s catalyst for improved education, health and income for West Georgia area citizens, and we serve as the lead community organization to enhance the capacity and ability of partner agencies to provide for basic human needs in the community.
OUR VALUES
We value accountability, integrity, transparency, efficiency, effectiveness and diversity, and we embrace our role as the philanthropy of choice in West Georgia.
